'HSG43 Industrial robot safety' includes advice for designers, manufacturers and suppliers on the principles of safe design for robot systems and the way in which they are likely to be used.

The recommendations will be of use to users of industrial robots, whatever the size of their organisations, in helping them set up safe robot systems and safe working methods.

This guidance is principally concerned with fixed industrial robots of the teach and play back type which use pendant controls for the teaching function. The range of uses for such robots is being widened but most are used for welding, painting, assembly tasks, machine loading/unloading and palletising. Some parts of this guidance are also relevant to other types of robot and to mechanical handling machines of the pick and place type.
